Hello World

Welcome to my personal website. I am Kristof Moeller — a marine biochemist and data scientist working at the IAEA Marine Environment Laboratories in Monaco, where I focus on harmful algal blooms, marine biotoxins, and the monitoring systems that underpin food safety and ocean governance. This site collects my professional work, projects, and writing in one place.

What you will find here

The CV page covers my academic background, research experience, fieldwork, and conference history — including a downloadable PDF. I completed my doctorate at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute in Bremerhaven in 2024, and have been based at IAEA-MEL in Monaco since late 2024 as a Junior Professional Officer.

The Publications page lists all seven of my peer-reviewed papers, with full author strings, journal links, and collapsible abstracts. My research spans harmful algal bloom ecology, marine biotoxin detection by LC-MS/MS, and toxicological risk assessment of microalgal species.

The Data & Software page showcases open-source tools I have developed: a cross-validation pipeline for microplastic spectroscopy data, an R Shiny application for competitive binding assay processing, and a HAB knowledge quiz currently in development.

The Talks page lists conference presentations and posters, including the 2023 ISSHA Maureen Keller Award for Best Oral Student Presentation at the International Conference on Harmful Algae in Hiroshima.

The Updates page carries news from IAEA-MEL and the broader HAB research community. This Blog is where I write longer-form reflections — on science, fieldwork, data analysis, and what it means to work at the boundary of research and international policy.

If you are interested in consulting, expert advisory work, or speaking invitations, the Contact page has the relevant details. I am available for engagements in harmful algal bloom risk assessment, marine biotoxin monitoring programme design, and environmental data analysis.
